- 3. Shoot the red enemies

- 4. Grab a new weapon
Your gun holds only a couple of shots, so walk over a dropped weapon to pick it up and keep fighting.

What's in this guide

What You Actually Do in Superhot Online
In Superhot online, time moves only when you move. Stand still and the whole room freezes — bullets hang in the air, red enemies stop mid-lunge, and you get to plan. Take one step and everything snaps back to full speed for exactly as long as you keep moving. That single rule turns a first person shooter into something closer to a real-time puzzle: you read incoming fire, lean out of its path, then decide your next move.
The free Superhot prototype is the browser demo the studio built before the full commercial game. You clear rooms of red crystalline figures, and because your gun only holds a couple of bullets, you constantly disarm foes and grab their dropped weapons. There is no health bar to top up and no ammo scattered on the floor — one hit ends the run, so positioning is everything.

How the Time-Freeze Loop Drives Superhot Gameplay
Every second of Superhot gameplay is a trade. Movement gives you distance and repositioning, but it also lets enemy bullets travel. The optimal play is a staccato rhythm: nudge sideways to dodge one shot, freeze to reassess, then dash to a fresh angle. Because your bullets also stop when you stop, you can fire, halt, and watch your shot creep toward a target while you turn to face the next threat.
Why This First Person Shooter Rewards Patience
Rushing gets you killed. The best runs look almost still — tiny movements that shave past red trajectories before you commit to a bigger reposition.
Superhot Controls: How to Play Superhot in the Browser
The Superhot controls for the browser prototype are deliberately simple. Here is how to play Superhot from a cold start:
- W A S D — move (and advance time)
- Mouse — aim and look
- Left click — shoot the weapon you hold
- Pick up a dropped gun or thrown object when your bullets run out
The 5 Levels of the Superhot Prototype
The prototype ships with five short, escalating rooms. Early levels introduce single pistol-armed foes; later ones stack enemies from multiple directions so you must chain grabs and disarms without stopping too long in any one spot. Each room is a self-contained combat puzzle rather than a wave survival mode.
Advanced Superhot Tactics
- Fire then freeze: release a shot, stop moving, and let it drift into a target while you pivot to the next enemy's line of fire.
- Strafe, don't sprint: short lateral steps thread between frozen bullets with far less risk than long dashes.
- Throw before you draw: hurling an empty gun staggers a foe, buying the frames you need to grab their weapon.
Superhot vs Superhot VR and Mind Control Delete
The version you play here is the free browser demo. The paid 2016 full game adds Endless and Challenge modes plus a replay editor; Superhot VR rebuilds the concept for room-scale headsets; and 2020's Mind Control Delete layers roguelike runs on top. If Superhot unblocked won't load on an older browser, try Firefox — the classic build depends on browser plugin support the newer HTML5 demo removes.
